Support Youth Alliance on May 5, Silicon Valley Gives
We are participating in Silicon Valley Gives (SV Gives) on May 5, and we need your support! SV Gives is a full 24 hours dedicated to raising money for local nonprofits, like Youth Alliance, through an online donation platform. We hope to raise $40,000 to open the Youth Empowerment Center and an office in Santa Clara County, plus expand our services. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for SV Gives updates. Chris Soto Joins Hollister Parks and Recreation Commission
Congratulations to Chris Soto, newest member of the Hollister Parks and Recreation Commission. Chris is a member of the Youth Advocates for Health, a group of volunteer youth that develop and advocate for policies to improve the accessibility and availability of physical activity programs and healthy foods for kids at school. This new position should help Chris to continue advocating for healthy activities and foods within our community.

San Ysidro Park will soon offer affordable Zumba classes, soccer practices, and other lifestyle-minded programs thanks to a federally funded effort to help South Santa Clara County families live healthier, disease-free lives. "The goal of the Community Transformation Grant is to increase activity at these parks," explained Art Barron of the Youth Alliance. Anaid Godoy presents at joint conference on Women's Health and Pregnancy Prevention![]()
Anaid Godoy, graduate of the YA FAMiLiA Young Parents Program and former Youth Lead of the YA Change Team, presented at The California Wellness Foundation joint conference on Women's Health and Teenage Pregnancy Prevention on September 26th in San Jose, California. Her personal perspective as a parenting teen provided insight for the statewide leaders working to create programs and models to best support young parents. During the discussion, Anaid gave specific recommendations in working with Latinas and in rural communities. Anaid stated, "I'm here today to let you know that because of programs like FAMiLiA I graduated school, have a great job, and am a better mom."
